Big global footwear brands manufacturing shoes in India
Time may not be far away when a Roger Federer or a Maria Sharapova bangs down their booming serves in the manicured lawns of Wimbledon stepping on shoes made out of India.
The big names in the sports footwear industry – Adidas, Reebok, Nike, Puma and Fila—are presently manufacturing shoes in India through outsourcing contracts with domestic companies such as Lakhani and M&B Footwear.
"We are using 10 per cent of our total production capacity for producing shoes, mainly sports shoes, for multinational brands in India. In the coming year, we hope to double volume of production for global brands," said Inder Dev Singh Musafir, managing director of M&B Footwear.
M&B Footwear, which is targeting a turnover of Rs 100 crore by the end of this fiscal, also has an exclusive manufacturing and marketing rights for Lee Cooper shoes in India.
