SPRINGFIELD - McKay Investment Company may get a step closer to redeveloping its portion of the old Mohawk Shopping Center next Monday, but at least one business owner hasn't waited around to see if, or when, he will need to relocate.
Tom Nelson, owner of Tommy's Sports Bar & Grill - now at 1509 Mohawk Blvd., a couple of doors down from Bi-Mart - took the plunge earlier this year. He moved across the parking lot to the end of the shopping center owned by Cuddeback Investments Inc., where he revamped an old beauty parlor into a state-of-the-art beer-and-burger bar complete with 10 flat-screen plasma TVs and a 10-foot projection screen.
The move from the former Stepina's Bar and Grill location at nearby 1475 Mohawk Blvd. happened in near-record time - less than two months from start to finish - and cost $365,000, Nelson said.
